I Am a Vegetarian, I Love Steak
Back when i was in grade 6 my grandmother died of cancer so my parents decided to live healthier. They became Vegetarians but would still eat fish and seafood. This made it a easy for me to become a vegetarian but I chose not to eat any meat or seafood. It was a wonderful 2.5 years I wouldn't even eat McDonald's french fries because they were deep fried in 50% beef fat. You've got to agree that would be a difficult thing for a tween. I did fine at first in high school because my school had a ton of unique food choices which was really impressive for a high school, but then I moved. My new school offered chicken burgers and french fries deep fried in the same deep fryer. It made life for me a little difficult. The school didn't even have stores or restaurants within walking distance so I was stuck there until I got my license. One day I was at a restaurant with my family and I ordered the vegetable soup while eating the soup I realized it had chicken. After that day I decided I would close my eyes and eat meat again. I think deep down I knew I would become a vegetarian at some time in the future again. I was the type of person that couldn't purchase meat on the bone, it reminded me I was about to eat an animal! Eating boneless meat I was able to pretend there was no harm to animals. And I LOVE beef. I love it rare with blood (in my head I like to pretend that is just the sauce) I would eat it every other day.
Now I'm 27 years old, married, and have 2 kids. I'm ready to be a vegetarian again. My husband has said he will support me but he doesn't feel the same way about my choice as I do. He plans to follow my new lifestyle because he would like to become healthier and I am the one cooking dinner so he would rather not have to make his own. I think it will be easier for the kids they are 2 and 3years old so they don't really know the difference anyway. My son has pretty much been a vegetarian we just got him to start eating chicken strips and hot dogs which I will no longer be serving. I'm hoping that if they grow up in a vegetarian house they will find the choice easier to make (if they want) when they are older. For example: if you're not used to eating junk you wont miss it vs. always eating it and then stopping.
This blog will be my about my experiences of becoming a vegetarian again. It will be about a mom who has a love hate relationship with meat.
